Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) is the nation’s leading voice on exercise and sports science. We govern and represent approximately 10,000 degree-qualified accredited exercise professionals who support Australians to reach their health and performance goals.

About your role
The Chief Exercise Physiologist provides authoritative professional, clinical and strategic leadership for the exercise physiology profession. The role exists to uphold and advance the highest standards of practice, ensure the profession remains evidence-based and future-focused, and strengthen the impact, recognition and credibility of exercise physiology across the health system and Australian community.
You will:
* Support and advocate for members, inform policy and research translation, and represent the profession with confidence and integrity at a national and state level as required
* Lead the translation of research into meaningful insights that inform advocacy, influence decision-makers and strengthen ESSA’s position as a trusted voice in health and sports performance
* Represent and advocate for exercise physiology by facilitating briefings and capability-building activities and acting as the approved public voice of the profession in relevant forums
* Support and engage with members on professional practice, quality assurance and clinical issues
* Provide authoritative leadership on standards of exercise physiology practice and advice on emerging issues relevant to the profession
* Seek out and respond to media and public enquiries in a timely manner, noting that this may occur outside standard business hours
Your competitive edge will include:
* Accredited Exercise Physiologist, with minimum 5 years of professional practice experience
* Demonstrated experience in science communication, engaging effectively with industry, academia, practitioners, media, government and the public
* Proven ability to translate research and evidence into practical, real-world impact, bridging the gap between research and public understanding
* Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present complex evidence in clear, persuasive messages that inform policy and influence change
* Demonstrated ability to manage confidential, sensitive and commercially sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
* A collaborative team member with a genuine commitment to contributing positively to team and organisational outcomes
* Experience working within a professional body, regulator or health NFP (desirable)
