As the Group continues its strong growth trajectory, including global acquisitions and capital activity, we are seeking an outstanding senior legal leader to join as Head of Legal (Australia & New Zealand), reporting directly to the Chief Legal & Risk Officer.
This is a pivotal, high-impact leadership role with both ANZ operational accountability and a global corporate transactions remit.
The Opportunity
As Head of Legal, you will oversee all legal matters across the ANZ business while playing a central role in corporate transactions globally across the Group.
Working closely with the CLRO and Executive Committee, you will lead and execute complex M&A and capital initiatives, elevate key legal risks appropriately, and contribute to the continued development of a high-performing legal function.
Leading and developing a team of two Lawyers, you will combine technical excellence with strong business judgement — supporting growth, enabling transactions, and shaping governance frameworks within a sophisticated corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Corporate Transactions (Global Remit)
* End-to-end support on mergers & acquisitions, divestments and joint ventures
* Advising on group debt finance, refinancings and syndicated debt facilities
* Supporting equity capital market transactions and capital management strategy
Corporate Governance & Market Disclosure
* Overseeing annual and half-year reporting and continuous disclosure obligations
* Supporting Board and Committee reporting and governance frameworks
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
* Leading and developing a high-performing ANZ legal team
* Developing and managing external law firm panels
* Building strong partnerships with senior management and executive stakeholders
About You
You will be a senior legal practitioner with 10+ years' post-admission experience and extensive top-tier firm or blue-chip corporate legal practice exposure.
Your background will include:
* M&A, joint ventures and capital markets
* Commercial contracts and strategic advisory work
You bring advanced drafting and negotiation capability, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to manage complexity and competing priorities.
Experience advising in a listed or highly regulated environment will be advantageous but is not essential.
Above all, you are a pragmatic and influential leader — proactive, accountable and confident operating at Executive and Board level.
