Join Miwatj Health as an Allied Health Practitioner – Assessments in this full-time fixed-term role (12–24 months) based in Darwin or Nhulunbuy. In this role, you will work alongside Yolŋu people, families, and community staff to deliver culturally safe clinical, cognitive and functional assessments that support people to understand their strengths, needs and available supports. The role supports individuals to better understand the impact of disability, developmental delay, or health conditions on daily life, and contributes to evidence required for NDIS access, eligibility, and care planning, as well as other health and community services. Working within a multidisciplinary team and alongside Yolŋu staff and interpreters, you will ensure assessments are respectful of Yolŋŋu culture, language, and decision-making practices. This role also contributes to strengthening local capability, improving service delivery, and supporting positive outcomes for individuals and families, with regular travel by light aircraft to remote communities across East Arnhem Land.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include delivering clinical, cognitive and functional assessments, contributing to evidence for NDIS access, eligibility and care planning, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, Yolŋu staff and interpreters to ensure culturally safe practices. You will write clear clinical reports that translate assessment findings into functional impacts and support needs, and utilise standardised assessment tools and psychometric measures. You will work in cross-cultural and remote settings, communicating effectively with communities and stakeholders to support service delivery and positive outcomes.

* Hold current AHPRA registration as a Psychologist (or Provisionally Registered Psychologist) or Occupational Therapist
* Experience conducting clinical, cognitive or functional assessments related to disability
* Strong clinical report writing skills and ability to translate findings into evidence of functional impacts and support needs

Established in 1992, we're committed to securing quality health care services across the East Arnhem and enabling Yolŋu powered community health and wellbeing. Miwatj provides culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care to over 6,000 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents across 3 East Arnhem wards. With a Head Office in Nhulunbuy, Miwatj also manages a Corporate Office in Darwin, 7 fixed clinics across the East Arnhem region, and dedicated outreach teams who travel to 3 additional locations.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and the principles of self-determination, along with an understanding of the social, cultural and health factors affecting Yolŋŋu people in remote communities.
