Foi support officer (nv1 clearance)

Allygroup is seeking an experienced FOI Support Officer to assist with the management and processing of FOI and internal review matters under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. This is a secondment opportunity for an initial 12-month period with the possibility of extending for a further 12 months.

This role supports senior decision‑makers, manages sensitive and high‑profile matters, and ensures strict compliance with statutory timeframes. You will operate in a complex, fast‑paced environment, providing expert advice and high‑quality written products.

Candidates must be an Australian citizen with NV1 clearance, Canberra-based and be available on a full-time basis.


Key responsibilities:

* Process FOI requests and requests for internal review in accordance with the FOI Act and internal business rules

* Manage external review matters conducted by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), including drafting high‑quality submissions

* Provide expert legal and strategic advice on complex and sensitive FOI matters

* Support senior decision‑makers with clear, accurate, and timely advice

* Liaise and engage with key internal and external stakeholders, including other government agencies

* Undertake research on complex subject matters and distil information into clear, concise written products

Our ideal candidates:

* Apply comprehensive knowledge of FOI and administrative law principles to complex and sensitive matters

* Undertake detailed analysis and problem‑solving to deliver fit‑for‑purpose advice

* Communicate clearly and persuasively through high‑quality written and verbal advice

* Build productive working relationships with stakeholders and clients

* Manage competing priorities while meeting strict statutory timeframes

* Demonstrate practical experience in processing FOI requests and providing FOI advice

Qualifications and Experience

* Legal qualifications are highly regarded, but not essential where strong practical FOI experience is demonstrated

* Demonstrated experience working with the FOI Act and OAIC processes is essential
