The directorate focuses on delivering strategic construction programs, supporting state and national initiatives, and ensuring infrastructure aligns with evolving education delivery needs
Role Overview
The Capital Projects Manager is responsible for coordinating complex capital works projects from planning through to delivery. The position requires strong stakeholder engagement, high-level analysis, project governance expertise, and the ability to operate effectively within a dynamic government environment. The role also provides expert advisory support and represents the department across project and procurement activities
Key Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate capital works projects to meet timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations
Lead complex negotiations to support project delivery and align with legislative and operational changes
Conduct high-level research, analysis, and prepare funding submissions and approvals
Develop and oversee project administration, monitoring, and reporting frameworks
Liaise with senior stakeholders, project teams, and external partners across all project phases
Provide expert advice on project management processes and client needs
Prepare reports, briefings, and strategic planning documentation
Support workplace safety by identifying and reporting hazards and incidents
Essential Criteria
Demonstrated experience in project and facilities management, including coordinating multiple construction projects
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide practical solutions
High-level written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement
Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines
Proven commitment to delivering high-quality client service
Knowledge of workplace safety, Equal Opportunity, and WHS requirements in construction environments
Desirable Criteria
Tertiary or post-secondary qualifications in Architecture, Project Management, Construction Management, Asset Management or similar
Experience delivering asset or project management within an educational environment
Experience managing building projects in an "in-charge" capacity
Knowledge of government capital works processes and procurement
