Overview

A Graduate Radiation Therapist is awaiting licensing from the Texas Medical Board. Under the direction of the Radiation Oncologists and the Radiation Therapy Supervisor, performs radiation therapy treatments. Applies age-specific needs in the assessment, treatment, and care of patients.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Job Specific:

- According to the treatment plan, prescriptions and instruction of a Radiation Oncologist, administers prescribed ionizing radiation treatments through a variety of therapeutic equipment. (EF)
- Assumes responsibility for designated area of work and procedures as required for routine or special assignments. (EF)
- Therapists monitor the patient and treatment conditions for inconsistencies or irregularities and notify physicists and Radiation Oncologists if any problems arise; they also stop treatments when problems occur. (EF)
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of assigned work area by securing and stocking supplies as appropriate or needed. (EF)
- Attends weekly chart rounds unless approved by Radiation Therapy Supervisor. (EF)
- Attends area seminars and related workshops needed to keep abreast of advances in procedures or techniques in work field.
- Attends all in-service and orientation programs as scheduled.
- Reports all equipment malfunction or failure to supervisor. (EF)
- Maintains appropriate patient record. (EF)
- Provides patient education as required.
- Applies age-specific needs in the assessment, treatment and care of patients.

Hospital:

- Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
- Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
- Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
- Performs within professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Other Duties As Assigned:

Required: Graduate of an approved Radiation Therapy program.

Experience

Required:

1. Previous experience in the clinical setting is helpful.

2. Knowledge and familiarity with procedures in applying prescribed ionizing radiation or other form of energy used is helpful.

Special Skills and Abilities

Required: Ability to work closely with Radiation Oncologists, Radiologists, medical staff members, patients and public.

Preferred: None

Licensure / Certification Requirements

Required:

1. Current temporary license with the ARRT in Radiation Therapy – The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; and obtain registration within four months of graduation
2. License with the TMB – Texas Medical Board obtained four months of graduation.
3. Current BLS from AHA - Basic Life Support, The American Heart Association

Preferred: Working knowledge of CT Stimulation
