Linux Systems Administrator Role
We are seeking an experienced Linux systems administrator to join our team on a contract basis in the Defence sector. The role is based in Canberra, ACT.
The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and maintaining Linux-based servers, infrastructure and software across both physical and virtual environments. They will ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and optimal performance of critical systems. Additionally, they will design, build and implement security and network management solutions.
Main Responsibilities:
* Administer and maintain Linux-based servers, infrastructure and software.
* Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and optimal performance of critical systems.
* Design, build and implement security and network management solutions.
* Closely collaborate with engineering, DevSecOps and Environment teams to securely deploy and maintain experimental systems; contribute towards future architectural decisions.
* Provide technical support to Army exercises for role specific technologies and systems.
* Conduct regular system audits, perform vulnerability assessments, and manage patching activities.
* Manage SELinux policies, configure firewalls (iptables/nftables), and enforce secure access controls, including compliance to the Information Security manual (ISM).
* Maintain accreditation processes and comprehensive compliance documentation.
Requirements:
* AGSVA Security clearance.
* Defence experience.
* Extensive experience with Linux system administration in secure, mission-critical environments, primarily with Red Hat based operating systems.
* Strong knowledge of networking, storage, and virtualisation (KVM, VMware).
* Proven ability to implement security controls and respond to cyber threats.
* Familiarity with integrating emerging technologies into secure infrastructure.
* RHICE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) - Security+, CISSP, or equivalent security certification.
* ITIL Foundation (for service management).
* AWS/Azure/GCP certifications (for hybrid cloud environments).
