Customer Engagement / Business Development Officer (Part-Time)
Toowoomba | School Hours Friendly | Build Relationships, Not Just Sales
We are a specialist manufacturer supplying custom flat-pack cabinetry and benchtops to the building and joinery trades across South East Queensland.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with customers, thinking through problems, and building long-term relationships—this is not a traditional sales role.
The role is primarily office-based. Once established, there may be opportunities to meet customers in person.
Our business is built on service and repeat customers, not one-off transactions. Many of our team have been with us for 10 to 16+ years because we focus on doing things the right way, not the easy way.
About the Role
This is not a traditional sales role.
You will be the first point of contact for new opportunities, primarily following up digital enquiries and marketing leads. Your role is to understand the customer, guide them, and help them engage with our systems and processes.
You'll:
* Follow up inbound leads and marketing initiatives
* Help customers understand our online systems and ordering platforms
* Gather information and guide enquiries toward quoting and production
* Maintain and improve our CRM system
* Contribute ideas to improve how we engage and convert quality leads to regular customers
This is a thinking role, not a high-pressure sales role.
Who This Role Suits
We are looking for someone who:
* Communicates clearly and confidently (especially with tradespeople)
* Is organised, reliable and follows through
* Is comfortable with technology and operation of our own systems and supplier portals (or willing to learn quickly)
* Enjoys solving problems and helping people
* Takes pride in doing things properly
Experience in business development, customer service, or sales is valuable, but a can-do mindset matters more than your background.
This role may suit someone returning to the workforce who is looking for meaningful, part-time work with flexibility and purpose.
Our Environment
We operate differently to most businesses our size.
* Strong team culture built on Trust, Accountability and Dedication
* Foster the growth of our employees through taking responsibility
* Open Book Management – we educate and share how the business performs
* Continuous Improvement mindset (we're always refining what we do)
* A genuine focus on long-term customers and long-term employees
If these ideas resonate, you'll likely fit in well. If not, this role probably isn't for you.
Hours & Structure
* Approx. 20–24 hours per week
* Ideally Tuesday–Thursday (flexible for the right person)
* School hours arrangement available
* Casual start, with pathway to permanent role
All team members become eligible for our quarterly bonus plan after a qualifying period to a permanent role.
How to Apply
Please email your application to:
Instead of a standard covering letter, please include a short response (no more than one page) addressing:
* What attracted you to this role and how it differs from other roles you've considered
* How you would approach following up a new customer enquiry (from first contact through to progressing it further)
* Describe a situation where you handled a complaint, disagreement, or difficult interaction with a customer, colleague, or similar situation. What did you do and what was the outcome?
Please also include:
* Your work history
* Work-related referees with contact details
We are less interested in perfectly written responses and more interested in how you think and communicate.
