Primary objective
To carry out survey, monitoring and control activities of the dengue mosquito in Tennant Creek and other NT regions.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Carry out mosquito survey, monitoring and insecticide based and other control activities in Tennant Creek, and other NT
regions as required.
2. To conduct trapping, sorting, and processing of mosquitoes collected as part of the dengue mosquito elimination program.
3. Assist in the data entry of survey, monitoring, and control records into a database.
4. Maintain mosquito survey and control equipment.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Willingness and ability to carry out mosquito field monitoring, survey and control in Tennant Creek and remote locations
in the Barkly and other NT regions as required.
2. Willingness and ability to carry out mosquito control activities using insecticides and other chemicals, and the ability to
keep and process accurate formal records of survey, monitoring, and control activities.
3. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, to present and communicate effectively and provide accurate and timely
feedback to supervisor.
4. Ability to maintain insect sampling and vector control equipment for the monitoring and control program.
5. To be self-motivated and work under minimal supervision with a high degree of accuracy and reliability.
6. Physical fitness and a willingness to work in difficult conditions that may include outside of normal working hours.
7. A current driver's licence and ability to use 4WD vehicles.
8. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Experience in insect identification using a microscope.
2. Pesticide application licence or relevant experience.
