Role Description
This is a part-time, on-site Senior Associate Lawyer role based in Sydney, NSW. The Senior Associate Lawyer will manage a portfolio of commercial matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, advising on corporate and commercial issues, and supporting clients with ongoing legal needs. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring junior team members, collaborating with clients' internal stakeholders, and contributing to secondment and subscription service delivery. The role involves identifying legal risks, developing practical solutions, and ensuring matters are handled efficiently and in line with professional standards. The Senior Associate Lawyer will also support business development initiatives, such as contributing to client proposals, thought leadership, and process improvements.
Qualifications
* Strong commercial law expertise, including experience drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts, and advising on corporate and business law matters.
* Demonstrated ability to provide practical, client-focused legal advice that balances legal risk with commercial objectives.
* Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring junior lawyers or legal staff, with a collaborative and inclusive approach to teamwork.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
* Well-developed matter management, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Admission as a lawyer in Australia, with a current practising certificate in good standing.
* Several years of post‐qualification experience in commercial law (experience at a law firm or in‐house environment is highly regarded).
* Comfort working directly with clients, including in secondment or embedded roles, and willingness to support subscription‐style service delivery.
* High ethical standards, sound professional judgment, and commitment to ongoing learning and development.
* Experience in technology, startups, or high‐growth businesses is an advantage but not essential.
