Full Stack Developer
* Location: Canberra, ACT
* Security clearance: NV1 required
* 12 months + 2x 12 months extension options
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Full Stack Developer to support the delivery of data visualisation and decision‑support systems. This role plays a key part in transitioning technical delivery from outsourced providers into deparment programmatic delivery, operating in a DevOps‑oriented, highly agile environment.
You will work under the guidance of a senior technical lead who will provide architectural oversight, mentorship and continuity, enabling you to quickly build familiarity with environments, workflows and expectations.
The role also contributes to:
* The evolution of best‑practice software development in contested and highly agile environments
* The broader transition from legacy infrastructure to the one ecosystem, including cloud migrations and adoption of emerging platforms and integration patterns
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Application Development
* Design, build and maintain full‑stack web applications for data visualisation and decision support
* Develop modern, secure and reusable front‑end and back‑end components
* Integrate applications with existing services and data sources
* Conduct technical analysis of legacy systems to inform migration and modernisation strategies
* Support testing, coordination and in‑office collaboration as required
* Provide integration advice and pragmatic delivery guidance to external teams
* Contribute to DevOps practices, automation and reproducible delivery pipelines
* Support transition from legacy infrastructure to cloud‑based platforms
* Stakeholder Engagement
* Work closely with business analysts, product owners and military stakeholders to capture functional and non‑functional requirements
* Engage senior stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to support decision‑making and delivery outcomes
* Act as a bridge between technical and non‑technical stakeholders to ensure clear communication and alignment
* Guide teams through architectural decisions and promote consistent use of best practices and standards
* Collaborate with other technical teams on application re‑architecture, migration and new capability development
Technical Skills & Experience
* Strong SQL skills, including understanding of 3NF and Kimball data architectures
* Backend development using .NET / C#, Node.js and relational databases
* Full‑stack web development with modern frameworks (Angular, Vue, Svelte or React)
* Experience within DevOps environments, including automation and CI/CD
* Exposure or interest in cloud infrastructure, analytics platforms or AI/ML engineering is highly regarded
Criteria
Essential Criteria
* Minimum 5 years' experience developing web applications using front‑end frameworks such as Angular, with strong preference for newer frameworks including Vue, Svelte or React.
* Minimum 5 years' experience developing applications using JavaScript/TypeScript, C# (.NET) and Node.js.
* Minimum 3 years' experience with SQL Server (preferred), Oracle or PostgreSQL, including advanced SQL, stored procedures and query optimisation.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a structured organisational environment, interact with diverse personalities, receive direction and work independently to deliver outcomes.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience working within large federal government environments, including engaging senior stakeholders and translating operational requirements into technical solutions, with awareness of security, privacy and governance requirements.
* Exposure to one or more of the following technologies or environments:
* Python
* Kubernetes / Docker
* Cloudera analytics platforms
* OLAP and decision support systems
1. Experience working with and providing guidance to externally contracted consultancies or delivery partners, including technical assurance, governance and quality oversight.
