About the Opportunity
Maitland City Council is currently recruiting for three Cadet Civil Engineers, for a period of two years, to join our organisation.
In this role, you will build upon your current studies by undertaking a cadet program in Civil Engineering, providing support to varying engineering teams within our City Services Directorate. You will support the investigation, planning, design and delivery of public infrastructure and civil works functions of local government whilst gaining practical experience and training.
This will encompass rotations through different teams and departments (e.g. traffic infrastructure, catchment and drainage, subdivision and development) alongside completing formal tertiary part-time studies in civil engineering.
This entry level position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in Council's wide range of engineering functions and plays a pivotal role in supporting our infrastructure, assets and our wider community within Maitland City Council.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
* Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to deliver quality customer service.
* Contemporary industry knowledge of civil engineering areas.
* Experience or understanding in undertaking research, analysis and presentation of information.
* Be experienced in effectively prioritising tasks, meeting deadlines and continuously improving.
* A current Class C driver's licence.
This role is only suitable for those who will finalise their degree qualification in Civil Engineering. Ideally, applicants are entering their fourth year of studies in 2026 with the ability to study part-time over two years or entering their third year of studies with the ability to appropriately manage studies with full-time employment. You will be given one day per week paid study leave.
Benefits
This Cadet position is a temporary full-time role (two-year contract) with a salary range of $55,816.80 up to $58,494.80 per year + 12% p.a. superannuation. Commencing salary is dependent on progression through university.
Council will also cover the full cost of the university subjects you complete during your cadetship. As a council employee you will also have access to staff benefits such as flexible working arrangements & fitness passport.
