Overview

This is a 36‑month fixed‑term, full‑time position commencing Term 1, 2026.

The role is part of a recruitment pilot designed to simplify the application process for teachers. A mandatory CV template is provided; application requires character‑limited responses to address two AITSL domains at application stage. The remaining domain will be assessed during further assessment for shortlisted applicants.

School

Kalumburu – meaning “Path By The River” or “River Crossing” – is the most northerly Aboriginal community in Western Australia. It is located on the banks of the King Edward River beside a long, deep billabong at the upriver end of Malindjar Gorge. Nearby towns: Kununurra (565 km SE), Wyndham (560 km SE) and Derby (650 km W). Road access is via the unsealed Gibb River Road and is seasonal; the community is often inaccessible by road for four to six months of the year. Alternative access is by air and supplies are delivered by sea.

Role

- Conscientious, flexible and innovative teacher committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal students.
- Actively involved in school and wider community; highly reflective; collaborative with colleagues, parents and external networks.
- Deliver engaging and relevant curriculum using a positive, student‑focused approach.
- Embed school’s whole‑school programs: Let’s Decode, Daily Reviews, Spelling Mastery, Zones of Regulation and Protective Behaviours.
- Strong behaviour support capabilities; adopt the whole‑school Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach; embed trauma‑informed approaches and cultural awareness.
- Maintain positive staff culture and demonstrate personal resilience for remote living and working.

Skilled Benefits

- Attractive Remote Teaching Service Allowance of $20 870 per year
- District allowance of $7 436 per year

Teachers and School Administrators at Kalumburu Remote Community School in 2026 are eligible for a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $2 000 (gross, pro‑rated for FTE and tenure). The second payment is released after completion of the school year; staff must remain employed until then.

Eligibility

- Hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration.
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term.
- Apply for a WA Working with Children Check before starting.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number before starting.
