As a lawyer in our civil law division, you will be providing legal advice and representation to individuals who are experiencing disadvantage. Your role will focus on assisting those who are seeking asylum, living with disability, at risk of homelessness, or suffering mental ill-health. You will also assist those who do not have capacity to make decisions for themselves.
* Providing legal assistance in protection visa appeals
* Reviewing guardianship, administration and mental health orders
* Representing clients in NDIS appeals
* Supporting clients with equal opportunity claims
* Assisting with housing matters
You may be required to appear before various tribunals, including the Administrative Review Tribunal, the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and the Federal Court of Australia. To succeed in this role, you must possess:
* A Category C Practising Certificate or eligibility to apply for one
* A strong commitment to the principle of equality of access to justice for all persons
* Experience communicating effectively with diverse groups of people from cultural, ethnic, and indigenous backgrounds, as well as those with physical or mental illnesses
* A general understanding of the procedures and operation of key government departments and tribunals
