Ready to step into a senior financial accounting leadership role in one of Australia's most desirable coastal regions?
Noosa Council is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Financial Accounting Coordinator to lead our Financial Accounting Team within the Financial Services Branch.
This is a pivotal role for a highly skilled finance professional who wants to combine technical depth in financial accounting, statutory reporting and treasury with people leadership, process improvement and meaningful public sector impact.
The Opportunity
In this role, you'll coordinate and deliver accurate, compliant and comprehensive financial accounting services across Council.
You'll be responsible for:
Leading a small, high-performing team across financial accounting, accounts payable, asset accounting, taxation and treasury
Overseeing statutory compliance and reporting, including annual financial statements, Community Financial Report and audit requirements
Managing general ledger structure, reconciliations, chart of accounts and financial reporting hierarchy
Ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Local Government Act **** and Regulations
Providing high-level advice on internal controls, financial governance, cash flow, investments and debt
Ensuring Council meets GST, FBT and Fuel Tax obligations and other taxation requirements
Supporting Council's asset management roadmap and asset accounting processes
Driving system and process improvements, responding to audit recommendations and changes in legislation or accounting standards
About You
You're a confident and collaborative finance leader with deep technical skills and a passion for good financial governance.
You bring:
Significant experience leading a financial accounting function, including statutory reporting, external audit, taxation compliance and general ledger management
Extensive knowledge of accounting standards, financial accounting concepts, audit and statutory reporting requirements, and asset capitalisation processes
Proven capability in building and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of recognition, excellence and continuous improvement
Strong understanding of cash flow management, treasury, investment and debt practices (local government/public sector experience highly regarded)
High-level proficiency with ERP systems and the ability to work with integrated ledgers and large finance datasets
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills; you can present complex financial information clearly, influence decision-makers and partner with leaders across the organisation
Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects and competing priorities
You'll also have:
A degree in accounting, commerce or a related discipline
A current "C" class driver's licence
CPA or CA (or equivalent) and local government experience in a similar role will be highly regarded.
