About the role: Aurizon is seeking an experienced insurance manager to lead a high-performing team to oversee the ongoing evolution and implementation of the group insurance program and captive reinsurance placement. This role will continue to drive improvements and provide consistent insurance management practices across the Group.
As our Insurance Manager, you’ll be the architect of our insurance strategy—designing, negotiating, and placing the enterprise-wide insurance program while managing our captive insurer and reinsurance placement. You’ll be the go‑to expert for risk insights, stakeholder engagement, and technical guidance across the business.
Critical Deliverables
- Design, negotiate and place the Enterprise Insurance Program.
- Manage the captive insurer and reinsurance placement.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to identify insurable and emerging risks.
- Collect and prepare renewal data to ensure compliance with disclosure obligations.
- Undertake insurance risk assessments, gap analysis and actuarial reviews to support risk retention appetite.
- Provide regular reporting to the Board and Executive team.
- Manage claims across all lines (excluding Workers Compensation & Motor Vehicle).
- Maintain insurer, broker, captive manager, legal and loss adjuster relationships.
- Provide contractual insurance advice to minimise risk exposure.
- Support M&A; activity through insurance due diligence.
- Lead and develop a high-performance insurance team and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Tertiary education and professional accreditation (ANZIIF Snr Assoc CIP preferred).
- Minimum 10 years’ experience managing complex insurance programs at a senior level.
- Strong technical expertise in insurance policy wordings and the regulatory environment.
- Proven capability in strategy design and implementation, risk assessment and claims management.
- Exceptional relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High-level analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Integrity, professionalism, and the ability to build trust across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
