Indigenous Service Support Officer

This role is part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides support and intervention services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people subject to youth justice intervention.

* The Indigenous Service Support Officer will assist Youth Justice Service Centre staff in providing culturally appropriate assessment, case planning, and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.


Key Responsibilities:

* Assist and support youth justice staff and relevant community stakeholders in culturally appropriate assessment, case planning, and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.
* Implement culturally appropriate individualised case plans through designing and implementing intervention strategies, negotiating with service providers, and linking clients to the services/supports they require.
* Consult and effectively work with relevant stakeholders including families, elders, other key community members, community agencies, and government departments to enhance the capacity of these stakeholders to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families subject to youth justice interventions and their families.
* Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including maintenance of case notes and records, preparation of reports, and performance reporting.
* Participate productively and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team involving a range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality casework outcomes.


Requirements:

* Tell us about your skills: Provide a current resume detailing your previous work or voluntary experience including two referees who have a thorough knowledge of your conduct and performance over the past 2 years, or an appropriate period, and one referee needs to be a current line supervisor.

About the Role:

This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified vacancy. Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island person.

To allow the selection panel to confirm that you are eligible to be considered for this First Nations Identified role, the panel may either:

* accept your written assertion that you are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
* obtain from you, as part of your formal application, documentary evidence attesting to your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

This role requires cultural capabilities as required. This person may be a community member, supervisor, or work colleague.


What We're Looking For:

We are looking for someone who has the ability to work collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and provide culturally responsive support.

The successful applicant will have a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and will be able to demonstrate their skills and experience in working with these communities.

They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including families, elders, and community members.

In addition, the successful applicant will have a strong commitment to the principles of reconciliation and will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the importance of cultural safety in the workplace.
