We are a market leader in the equine industry and a long-standing, well-established wholesale and distribution business representing leading international equine brands across Australia and New Zealand. With a strong retail and distribution footprint, we are continuing to grow and evolve, and we are now seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our leadership team.
About the role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Financial Controller plays a critical role in overseeing the financial health, integrity, and performance of the business. This is a senior, hands-on position responsible for leading the finance function, delivering accurate financial reporting, ensuring statutory compliance, and providing commercial insights to support strategic decision-making. This role would suit an experienced Financial Controller or someone looking to take the next step in their career.
You will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, retail and operational leaders, and external stakeholders to drive financial discipline, efficiency, and sustainable growth across a multi-site retail and wholesale environment.
Key responsibilities include:
* Overseeing all financial and accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, and balance sheet reconciliations
* Preparing accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
* Leading budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
* Monitoring financial performance and providing commercial insights
* Reviewing and implementing internal controls
* Ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, and statutory obligations
* Coordinating audits and managing relationships with banks, and advisors
* Driving process improvements and maintaining strong internal controls
* Leading and developing a high-performing finance team
About you
You are a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys partnering with the business and leading a team. You bring strong technical capability combined with the ability to communicate clearly and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Essential:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce
* CPA or CA qualification
* 5+ years in senior accounting or financial management
* Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
* Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (e.g. MYOB, Xero or similar)
* High level of attention to detail, integrity, and sound judgement
Preferred:
* Experience in a retail or multi-site business environment
* Proven leadership and team development skills
* Experience with Pronto Xi
