Help us deliver a better tomorrow
Australia Post is delivering for all Australians. From the vehicles we drive to the small businesses that make our communities thrive, we’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and for our people. We’re moving forward—and we want you to come along for the ride.
About the opportunity
You will report to the Senior Manager – Network Modelling & Optimisation, this role will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of our logistics network. You’ll not only build and analyse complex cost models but also apply advanced optimisation tools and techniques to deliver actionable solutions that drive efficiency and value across our operations.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who thrives on solving complex, ambiguous problems, and is comfortable working with large, messy datasets. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders across the business, interrogate data, and use your insights to influence strategic decisions at scale.
What you’ll deliver with us
- Build, maintain, and enhance advanced network cost models using Excel, Python, R, PowerBI, and specialist optimisation software.
- Apply and use optimisation tools and techniques to identify, prioritise, and implement cost-saving solutions.
- Conduct scenario analyses and use geo-spatial data to inform network design and investment decisions.
- Gather, clean, and analyse quantitative cost data (e.g., transport costs, machine outputs, resource allocation) to support operational and financial decision-making.
- Present detailed reports and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, including network development, finance, digital/data teams, and external partners.
- Lead and embed a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and customer focus across the function.
About you
You’re an energetic, adaptable problem-solver with a passion for optimisation and a knack for turning data into actionable insights. You’re financially literate, comfortable with economic drivers, and able to build and interrogate models that deliver real-world impact—even when the data isn’t perfect.
You will also have:
- Significant experience in finance, operations research, or modelling roles (ideally 7+ years), covering cost estimating, cost-to-serve, activity-based costing, and cost reconciliations.
- Proven ability to build and optimise complex cost models, reconcile data, and validate assumptions.
- Advanced proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, Python, R, PowerBI) and network optimisation modelling software (e.g., Coupa, Blue Yonder, AIMMS, AnyLogic, etc.).
- Experience applying optimisation techniques and using insights to drive solutions, including geo-spatial analysis.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across teams and influence outcomes.
- A passion for learning, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
- Desirable: Tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Financial Modelling, or a related field. PhD-level qualifications highly regarded.
