The role
We are working with a rapidly growing enterprise AI business that is looking for a Staff AI Engineer to lead the design and evolution of scalable AI products, platform capabilities and architectural standards.
This is a senior technical leadership role suited to someone who can operate across architecture, platform strategy and complex delivery. You will work at the intersection of software engineering, AI systems and enterprise platform development, helping shape how production‐grade AI systems are designed, built and scaled.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will lead the technical direction for AI‐powered applications that automate complex workflows, integrate with enterprise platforms and enable organisations to deploy AI agents securely and at scale.
You will partner closely with engineering, product, leadership and enterprise stakeholders to solve complex technical problems, influence platform direction and establish best practice across the AI platform and delivery ecosystem.
This role is ideal for someone who combines deep hands‐on engineering capability with strong architectural judgement, systems thinking and the ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design and evolution of enterprise‐grade AI systems, platforms and reusable services.
- Define technical direction and engineering standards for AI products, agent frameworks, backend systems and cloud‐native deployments.
- Design and guide the development of AI agents, assistants and orchestration frameworks that automate enterprise workflows at scale.
- Build and oversee scalable backend systems and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Lead the design and implementation of LLM‐powered applications using LangChain, LangGraph, Flowise or similar tooling.
- Shape RAG architectures, vector search patterns, memory strategies and evaluation approaches.
- Design integration patterns for connecting AI systems to enterprise platforms, APIs, data sources and internal services.
- Drive cloud architecture decisions across AWS, Azure or GCP, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and production‐ready.
- Establish best practice across containerisation, deployment, observability, CI/CD and runtime operations.
- Lead technical discovery and solution design for complex client use cases.
- Mentor engineers, provide architectural guidance and raise the overall engineering bar.
- Partner with product and leadership to influence platform roadmap, technical investment priorities and long‐term engineering strategy.
- Ensure solutions meet enterprise expectations for security, governance, reliability and compliance.
- Act as a senior technical escalation point across projects, helping teams navigate trade‐offs, delivery risk and architectural complexity.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering background with significant experience designing and building production systems, ideally 8+ years.
- Deep experience with Node.js and TypeScript in complex backend or platform environments.
- Proven experience building and shipping production AI or LLM‐powered applications.
- Hands‐on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, Flowise or similar AI frameworks.
- Strong architecture experience across APIs, microservices, distributed systems and service‐oriented platforms.
- Experience designing and deploying systems across AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Strong experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction across multiple teams, projects or product areas.
- Strong systems thinking, architectural judgement and problem‐solving capability.
- Ability to balance hands‐on technical depth with strategic thinking and cross‐functional influence.
- Experience working with enterprise stakeholders and translating complex business challenges into scalable technical solutions.
Nice to Have
- Experience building AI agents or multi‐agent systems in enterprise environments.
- Experience with RAG architectures and vector databases such as Pinecone.
- Experience using Python within AI workflows and AI platform capability.
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as n8n.
- Experience in enterprise consulting, solution design or client‐facing technical environments.
- Experience defining technical standards, reusable frameworks or internal platform capabilities.
- Experience with model evaluation, guardrails, observability and governance for production AI systems.
Why Apply
This is a great opportunity to work at the forefront of enterprise AI and agentic automation. You will lead the design of production AI systems, influence the architecture of next‐generation AI platforms and work with modern technologies across LLMs, AI agents, cloud platforms and enterprise automation.
