We are looking for a Senior Site Engineer to support a technically complex underground construction project in South Australia. This role requires a highly capable engineer with deep experience in structural steel installation, cast‐in‐place concrete works, and complex lifting operations within confined or underground environments.
You will play a key role in coordinating work fronts, ensuring safe execution, and representing the business confidently with supervisors, traders, subcontractors, and tier 1 project stakeholders. This is a high‐visibility position suited to someone technically strong, calm under pressure, and able to communicate effectively across all levels on site.
The successful candidate will bring strong hands‐on expertise in underground construction, with solid technical capability in structural steel installation, cast in place concrete works and complex lifting using air hoists and rigging, along with proven competence in confined‐space environments and the communication skills needed to work confidently with supervisors, trades, subcontractors and senior client stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient and high‐quality delivery.
About the role
* Lead and coordinate underground construction activities including structural steel erection and cast‐in‐place concrete works
* Oversee complex lifts using air hoists, rigging equipment, and specialised lifting systems
* Review and interpret drawings, lift studies, rigging plans, and construction methodologies
* Manage subcontractors, trades, and daily work fronts to ensure safe and efficient delivery
* Maintain strong compliance with HSE requirements, including confined‐space and underground safety protocols
* Prepare and manage QA/QC documentation including ITPs, WMS, SWMS, and daily reporting.
* Identify risks early and implement practical engineering solutions.
* Engage confidently with Project Managers, Area Managers, supervisors and Site Teams
* Support planning, sequencing, and coordination of upcoming works as project scope expands
Key Requirements
* 15+ years' experience in civil, structural, SMP or underground construction
* Proven experience in underground or confined space construction
* Strong capability in structural steel installation
* Solid experience delivering cast in place concrete works
* Demonstrated competence with rigging, lifting equipment, air hoists and complex lifts
* Strong understanding of underground safety, risk management and construction sequencing
* Ability to lead work fronts independently and make confident decisions on site
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively up and down the organisation
* Experience working on mining, tunnelling or heavy industrial projects
* High attention to detail with disciplined documentation and reporting habits
