Speech Pathologist

Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol, Bloomfield

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Speech Pathologist to join our inpatient Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol (MHDA) service at Bloomfield Hospital. This is a highly rewarding and varied role, offering exposure to a complex and diverse caseload across Acute, Rehabilitation and Secure units.

The successful applicant will be the sole Speech Pathologist dedicated to MHDA, working with a high level of autonomy while being well supported through close links with the acute general hospital Speech Pathology team located on the same campus. This role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys clinical challenge, interdisciplinary collaboration and the opportunity to shape service delivery.

Key responsibilities include;

* Communication and swallowing assessment and management for adults with complex mental health, neurological and medical comorbidities.
* Management of presentations including cognitive-communication impairment, dysphagia, speech and language disorders, social communication challenges, and functional communication needs.
* Delivery of individual and group-based interventions, including rehabilitation-focused and functional skills groups
* MDT collaboration.
* Contribution to risk assessment and management, care planning and discharge planning.
* Education and consultation to colleagues to support communication access and safe swallowing.
* Participation in service development, quality improvement and clinical governance activities.

This position is permanent full time and would suit a candidate that has experience or a strong interest in Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol, complex medical or inpatient settings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate confidence working with highly complex presentations, value MDT collaboration whilst being comfortable working independently, be a strong communicator, and advocate for person-centred care.

This position offers a unique highly specialised caseload not often available in traditional speech pathology roles. There is strong professional support and supervision and opportunities for professional development, upskilling and service innovation.
