Treatment Doctor / Surgeon – 7.5 hours

BPAS is looking for a Surgeon to perform terminations of pregnancy in our Northampton Clinic. The role is every Tuesday.

As a treatment doctor/surgeon you will provide safe, effective and comprehensive surgical and medical terminations of pregnancy to BPAS clients.

Working at BPAS Northampton with the option to provide services in other areas nationally if you are able. Candidates should operate between 13+6 up to 24 weeks, with willingness to train to higher gestations.

BPAS is an independent healthcare charity that has been advocating and caring for women and couples who decide to end a pregnancy for more than 50 years.


About you

With a Bachelor of Medicine (or equivalent) and full General Medical Council registration plus license to practice, you will be passionate and committed to reproductive healthcare and ensure that all BPAS clients are treated in a professional and caring way. You will also have unwavering support for a woman's right to choose abortion.

You are a good communicator who enjoys building strong working relationships across the business.


Main duties of the job

* Carry out termination of pregnancy by the appropriate method to evacuate the products of conception and ensure complete abortion in accordance with BPAS clinical policies and procedures.
* Complete client consultation if needed and complete the statutory documentation.
* Assess and provide advice on the management of clients with medical or other conditions which may affect the abortion process.
* Be present in the operating theatre throughout each procedure and remain on site until all clients have been assessed fit for discharge from recovery or passed to the care of another on‑site doctor.
* Provide support, advice and guidance to nursing staff in the management of unexpected outcomes.


We are also looking for

* Experience of independent practice for any abortion procedures/gestations relevant to the post, or willingness to be trained in‑house.
* Knowledge of termination of pregnancy procedures and the assessment and management of complications.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to be pro‑active and flexible.
* Experience of IUD/Implant insertion along with knowledge of sexual health issues.
* Willingness to travel to other locations within the region and/or work flexibly.

Salary

£103,020 – £154,020 per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time hours) depending on gestational skills & experience.
