Position Overview
The Kitchen Steward supports the efficient operation of the kitchen and stewarding areas by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and organisation. This role ensures that kitchen staff have a clean, safe, and well prepared environment to deliver high-quality food service.

* Cleaning & Sanitation
* Wash and sanitise dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
* Maintain cleanliness of kitchen surfaces, floors, storage areas, dishwashing stations, and waste disposal zones.
* Adhere to all hygiene, food safety, and sanitation standards.
* Assist with deep-cleaning tasks as scheduled by the Chief Steward.
* Ensure all workspaces are stocked with clean equipment and tools.
* Refill and maintain consumables (e.g., soap, paper towels, sanitising chemicals).
* Safely operate dishwashing equipment and report faults immediately.
* Manage waste disposal, recycling, and compost systems in line with company procedures.
* Organise and store kitchen equipment appropriately to ensure easy access and safe handling.
* Follow safe work practices to prevent injuries, cross-contamination, and hazards.
* Comply with all company policies, WHS (Work Health & Safety) regulations, and food safety guidelines.
* Report any incidents, hazards, or maintenance issues to the Chief Steward promptly.
* Support the EVT Community Engagement program.
* Work collaboratively with chefs, stewards, and service staff.
* Support the Chief Steward with inventory checks, stock rotation, and general kitchen organisation.
* Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude, contributing to a smooth kitchen operation.
Essential
* Experience in a kitchen hand, stewarding, or cleaning role (or willingness to learn).
* Knowledge of safe food handling and hygiene practices.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
* Physical capability to lift, carry, and stand for extended periods.
Desirable
* Food Safety Certificate (e.g., Food Handler Level 1 or equivalent).
* Experience in hospitality, catering, healthcare, or large scale kitchen environments.
* Familiarity with commercial dishwashing machines and cleaning equipment.
