This is an opportunity for an Associate or Senior Associate Tax Lawyer to step into a leading national tax practice and work on some of the most complex tax matters in the Australian market.
The role sits within a top-tier Tax team advising major Australian and global corporates on high-end income tax, transactional and advisory work, as well as sophisticated tax controversy. Matters span major M&A and project transactions, tax risk and structuring advice, and significant disputes involving ATO audits, objections, rulings and litigation. The work is intellectually demanding and commercially grounded, with exposure to issues that genuinely shape outcomes for clients operating at scale.
The practice operates on a national, pooled model, meaning you'll work closely with multiple partners across Melbourne and Sydney rather than through a single reporting line. This structure provides depth and variety of experience, regular partner access, and early involvement in complex matters. You'll be trusted to manage smaller matters independently and take responsibility for defined components of large, high-profile engagements, with strong client exposure from the outset.
Collaboration is central to how the team operates. You'll work seamlessly with Corporate M&A, Banking & Finance, Funds, Real Estate and Disputes teams, providing tax input on major domestic and cross-border transactions. The role also offers regular interaction with leading members of the tax bar on complex disputes, giving you exposure that is genuinely career-defining.
Development is practical, structured and ongoing. Partners are hands‐on and invested in mentoring, with a clear focus on building technical depth, commercial judgment and confidence in dealing directly with clients and regulators. The team encourages growth, supports autonomy as your experience develops, and values lawyers who are keen to learn, contribute and mentor others as they progress.
Flexible working is embedded in the team's culture, with a hybrid model that balances in‐office collaboration and flexibility. Remuneration is market‐competitive, with incentives recognising both performance and broader contribution, alongside a strong suite of wellbeing, parental leave and lifestyle benefits.
This role will suit a technically strong, proactive Tax Lawyer at Associate or Senior Associate level who enjoys complex work, values direct client engagement, and is looking to develop within a collaborative, high‐performing national team.
