VIE 24 months – Junior Plant Breeder – Wheat (H/F)
Trigall Australia is the fully-owned subsidiary of Florimond Desprez in Australia. Florimond Desprez is a French multi-crop breeding company. Trigall Australia’s ambition is to develop and market wheat varieties in Australia.
For Trigall Australia, you will be responsible for the Western Australian Wheat breeding Program with a focus on delivering sound, timely data to enable an efficient and commercially focused breeding program. This includes implementation of a breeding and testing strategy to realize commercial opportunities while contributing to the scientific development of the breeding program.
- Conduct the wheat breeding program under steering of the Senior Plant Breeder, which includes participation to daily breeding works such as crossing, seed preparation, trial planting, scoring, harvesting, data processing and line selection
- Implement and execute a molecular marker tool kit enabling marker assisted selection supporting efficient trait selection and variety candidate identification as well as standard quality testing protocols
- Under direction, manage the breeding database, including storage backups
- Actively contribute to the Product Advancement process
- Support product launch and field day activities, including the supply of technical information to the commercial team
- Work with Wheat breeders in Argentina, France, Brazil and Spain to leverage germplasm diversity and breeding tools
- Execute and record all MTA’s and agreements relevant to wheat seed shipments and germplasm movements
- Contribute to the conduction of the Eastern Breeding Programm
- Travel to Western Australia for field scoring and oversee providers for breeding platform establishment, based in Esperance
Qualifications & competencies
- A degree qualification in Agricultural Science or equivalent
- Post graduate qualifications in plant breeding or genetics.
- Working knowledge of wheat breeding theory, including pathology, grain quality and agronomy
- Some knowledge of plant breeding operational requirements of field and seed management process
- Ability to develop and implement plans with drive for continuous improvement and optimization
- High-level organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to plan and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
- Excellent analytical skills. Strong ability to think critically and make effective decisions in high-pressure environment.
- Language: Full professional English competency is required. Spanish is a plus.
