GBI is seeking a Junior Drilling Offsider to join our field team. This is an entry-level role suited to someone who is hands-on, physically fit, and keen to build a long-term career in drilling and field investigations.
This role is labour intensive and involves working outdoors in all conditions. You will be supporting the Driller with daily drilling operations and learning the fundamentals of drilling, sampling, and site setup from the ground up.
You do not need previous drilling experience. Full training will be provided for the right candidate with the right attitude.
What the role involves
* Assisting the Driller with daily drilling operations
* Manual handling of drill rods, casing, augers, and tooling
* Loading and unloading equipment and vehicles
* Setting up and packing down drill sites
* General labouring duties around drilling rigs
* Assisting with soil and rock sample recovery
* Cleaning, maintaining, and caring for equipment
* Working long days in physically demanding conditions
Over time, you will be trained to operate drilling equipment and gain exposure to a range of geotechnical and environmental investigation methods.
Equipment you will be exposed to
* Small auger drill rigs on 4WD utes
* Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) rigs (track and truck mounted)
* DPSH rigs
* Dual tube percussive rigs with hollow auger capability
* Diamond drill rigs
* Backhoes and excavators (training provided over time)
This role is suited to someone who
* Is physically fit and comfortable with hard manual labour
* Enjoys working outdoors and on changing sites
* Has a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
* Can take direction and work as part of a close-knit crew
* Is reliable, punctual, and safety focused
Essential requirements
* Australian work rights
* Current driver's licence (HR licence advantageous but not required)
* Ability to pass site medicals and drug & alcohol testing
* A practical, hands-on attitude
Mechanical aptitude or trade experience is highly regarded but not essential.
Work conditions
* Predominantly Perth based
* Away work is common (typically 2–5 days, occasionally up to 2 weeks)
* No FIFO roster
* Most days you will return home
* Additional hours paid for away work
* Weekend work is rare but paid at increased rates
