Job Title: Aboriginal Speech Pathology Specialist


Aboriginal Speech Pathologists play a vital role in providing culturally-responsive speech pathology services for the benefit of Aboriginal children, youth and their families. This position is specifically designed to optimize the development of the child.


The role involves the provision of assessment and therapeutic supports to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants through a multidisciplinary team approach alongside occupational therapy, physiotherapy and Aboriginal Allied Health Assistants.


Key Responsibilities:



* Supports NDIS participants with speech sound disorders, expressive and receptive language delays and disorders, emotional regulation skills;

* Conducts assessment and intervention to support social participation using therapeutic strategies including the implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication;

* Fosters self-determination of clients and community by facilitating choice and control over service delivery;

* Delivers therapy services under supervision and guidance from clinical supervisors and managers.



Requirements:



* Bachelor of Speech Pathology or equivalent qualification with registration as a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with Speech Pathology Australia;

* Knowledge of community-based speech pathology services within a multidisciplinary team, including working with a broad range of clients from varying socioeconomic backgrounds with a wide range of functional impairments;

* A flexible and creative approach to providing speech pathology services that is responsive to the needs of the community;

* Ability to partner with service users, including them in goal setting, care planning and care coordination to identify priorities;

* Willingness and ability to travel to and work in remote locations for up to a week at a time, including travel on light aircraft;

* Current driver's license (or ability to obtain).
