NORTHERN TERRITORY GOVERNMENT

Location: Level 5, Parliament House, Darwin, Northern Territory

Provide high level policy, research, communications and stakeholder support to assist the Treasurer in delivering the government's economic, fiscal and budget priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide high quality and timely policy advice on economic, budget, revenue and financial matters relevant to the Treasurer's portfolio.

2. Monitor and identify significant developments relevant to the Treasurer's responsibilities.

3. Support the Senior Ministerial Advisor in managing office operations and contributing to a positive, high-performing culture.

4. Build and maintain effective relationships with departmental officials and key stakeholders.

5. Maintain strong communication with agencies and external stakeholders to inform policy, planning and risk management.

6. Ensure the Treasurer is appropriately briefed for Parliamentary and Cabinet responsibilities.

7. Prepare briefs, correspondence, speeches and reports as required.

8. Work closely with the Senior Ministerial Advisor to support the Treasurer's priorities and workflow.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

2. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement with sensitivity to individual, community and political needs.

3. Strong time management, planning and organisational skills, capacity to set priorities, balance competing tasks and meet deadlines.

4. Sound knowledge or understanding of government and political processes and procedures.

Desirable:

1. Tertiary qualifications in economics, public policy, finance, law or related fields.

2. Knowledge of or experience in the portfolio areas relevant to the position, ideally within a Northern Territory context.
