Utilise your administrative expertise to support the tobacco business licence application process. Fixed Term, Full Time opportunity until 30 June 2026 VPS Grade 2: $60,295 - $77,430 plus superannuation. The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Licensing Officer to provide a critical role within Tobacco Licensing Victoria. About the Business Unit The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) provides a range of government programs and services focused on improving community safety, victim services, regulatory services and crime prevention, and building strong collaboration across the justice system. Located in the Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services (IRLS) group, Tobacco Licensing Victoria (TLV) is being established to deliver the Government's commitment to implement a tobacco regulation and licensing scheme. Following the passage of the Tobacco Amendment (Tobacco Retailer and Wholesaler Licensing Scheme) Act (Act) in November 2024, Victoria will implement a tobacco business licensing scheme and regulator to strengthen tobacco regulation. From 1 July 2025, tobacco retailers and wholesalers will be able to apply for a license to sell tobacco products, improving oversight and compliance. Additional functions under the Act, including enforcement and broader regulatory powers, will come into effect in February 2026. About the Role Initially reporting to the Senior Licensing Supervisor, the Licensing Officer will support the delivery of licensing functions, including: adhering to frameworks and processes to deliver the tobacco licensing functions, which may include the administration and assessment of tobacco licence applications consistent and high-quality service delivery The role operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires an organised approach to effective stakeholder engagement. Core to being successful in this role will be your willingness to adapt to a dynamic environment, your demonstrated initiative and effective communication skills. As the Licensing Officer, some of your duties will include: Undertake pre-assessment activities on a range of tobacco-related applications. Prepare standard correspondence to applicants and industry participants. Assess, investigate and respond to routine enquiries and requests for information from internal and external stakeholders.
