QTMP involves the design, manufacture and maintenance of 65 new six-car passenger trains to support Cross River Rail and the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. These trains will be built at a new, purpose-built facility in Torbanlea on the Fraser Coast.
About the role
Downer Rail & Transit Systems is seeking an experienced and qualified Manufacturing QC Inspector - Non-Destructive Testing to support the Queensland Train Manufacturing Project (QTMP).
This is a crucial and exciting opportunity involving performing Non-Destructive Testing and inspection activities across our train bogie and carbody manufacturing operations, helping deliver high-quality passenger rolling stock for Queensland.
Key responsibilities
* Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and inspection activities for train manufacturing.
* Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, including Downer's Zero Harm principles.
* Achieve and maintain NDT performance KPIs to support production delivery.
* Identify and escalate issues that may impact project schedules.
* Foster a proactive quality culture and continuous improvement.
* Communicate effectively with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders.
* Read and interpret relevant weld, fabrication, and manufacturing standards.
* Support cost efficiency by identifying opportunities for improvement and waste reduction.
* Lead by example to promote teamwork, safety, and high performance.
About You
* Hold ISO 9712 Level 2 certification in Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic, Penetrant, and Visual Weld Inspection.
* Ideally possess additional accreditation as a Weld Inspector and/or NACE Coating Inspector.
* Bring at least 3 years' experience in NDT, within rail or heavy manufacturing.
* Confidently read, interpret, and apply weld, fabrication, and manufacturing standards.
* Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and Zero Harm principles.
* Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
* Proactive in identifying issues, driving continuous improvement, and supporting efficient production.
* Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Lead by example, fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and high performance.
