This is a technical leadership role within our organization, responsible for delivering secure and reliable systems.
The Deputy Chief Engineer will provide architectural and design guidance across multiple product teams, supporting the delivery of secure and scalable ICT solutions.
About the Position
The successful candidate will bridge engineering execution and strategic oversight, with responsibility for cyber security operations, test and evaluation, and architectural guidance.
They will lead cyber security and test & evaluation functions, support DevSecOps practices and release processes, and mentor junior engineers in areas such as virtualisation, containerisation, and secure development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide technical direction to product teams, ensuring the delivery of secure and reliable systems.
* Lead cyber security operations, including incident response and vulnerability management.
* Support the implementation of DevSecOps practices and release processes.
* Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on secure development and testing methodologies.
* Contribute to the development of architectural guidance and standards.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate security risks.
Requirements
Essential:
* Degree in Engineering (Software Engineering preferred), Computer Science, or IT.
* SAFe Practitioner certification (can be completed upon engagement).
* Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and secure software development.
* Strong background in Windows/Linux environments, virtualisation, and containerisation.
* Network engineering knowledge, including SDN and security practices.
* Experience in software testing and evaluation, including tools like Zephyr Squads.
* Familiarity with Australian Government security frameworks (e.g., ISM).
* Department of Defence experience.
Desirable:
* Certifications such as CDP, CISSP, or ISTQB Advanced Test Manager.
* Experience in systems engineering, SIEM, threat detection, and vulnerability management.
* Knowledge of SCAP, STIG, CIS standards, and MITRE ATT&CK.
* Agile/Scrum delivery experience.
Security Clearance:
* Must be an Australian citizen.
* Ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance or higher.
