Overview
Primary objective
To maintain the operational quality and integrity of the DriveSafe NT (urban) driver education and licensing program within a regulatory environment. The position provides operational compliance, monitoring, support and advice to service providers as well as supervision and leadership to staff within own team and/or across the DriveSafe program while supporting and contributing to the work unit and division's strategic road safety objectives.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Manage the development and implementation of operational resources, planning and policies and procedures to maximise the effectiveness of the DriveSafe NT program throughout the Northern Territory.
* Prepare reports and provide strategic advice on the functioning of the program to ensure effective communication and partnership with other government agencies and relevant stakeholders.
* Train and provide advice to Motor Vehicle Registry staff and/or service providers on DriveSafe NT program policies and procedures.
* Prepare or provide input with the preparation of reports, high-level submissions and Ministerial briefs related to DriveSafe operations.
* Monitor the DriveSafe NT business unit outcomes and budget, make recommendations in relation to business objectives, improvements and professional development.
Selection criteria
Essential
* Supervisory and leadership experience in a program delivery or front line service delivery environment with the ability to motivate staff and service providers to achieve business objectives.
* High level communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to deal with a diverse range of people including government sectors, service providers, program participants and key industry stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures with a proven ability to drive business unit improvements considering program participant needs and road safety strategies.
* Demonstrated problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills; ability to manage own workload and balance the demands of providing high level service delivery within a regulatory environment.
* Hold a current 'C' class Northern Territory Drivers Licence.
Desirable
* Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TAE 40116 or equivalent) or ability to obtain.
* Operational knowledge of applicable NT legislation including but not limited to the Motor Vehicles Act 1949 and the Traffic Act 1987.
* Sound knowledge of contemporary issues and initiatives in relation to road safety, driver licensing functions and the relationship with the strategic road safety directions of the department and government.

* A Police criminal history record and a satisfactory traffic offence history is required prior to appointment.
* The successful applicant must have a willingness to travel to remote locations by four wheel drive or light aircraft.
