Senior Actuary – Injury Scheme A well-funded government agency is hiring 2 Senior Actuaries to bring actuarial capability in-house and build out a stronger internal function.
Working closely with the Chief Actuary, you will play a key role in establishing and growing the actuarial team. This includes shaping how the team operates, embedding best practice, and delivering insights that will directly influence the management of a large and complex scheme over the long term.
Responsibilities
Support the development of actuarial strategy, governance frameworks, and operating models
Lead and mentor actuarial professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture
Deliver clear, actionable insights from complex actuarial models to a broad stakeholder group
Develop and enhance monitoring and forecasting frameworks to assess scheme sustainability and emerging risks
Provide actuarial input across pricing, reserving, and regulatory reporting activities
Review and provide assurance over actuarial work produced internally and externally
Improve reporting, metrics, and performance frameworks to strengthen decision‑making
Drive automation, process improvement, and uplift in actuarial best practice
Requirements
FIAA (or equivalent) with 7+ years of actuarial experience, ideally within general insurance
Strong understanding of personal injury schemes (CTP, Workers Comp), including claims drivers and emerging experience
Proven experience reviewing actuarial work and leading or mentoring analysts
Exposure to building or improving actuarial frameworks, governance, or reporting environments
Strong technical capability (Excel plus R, Python, SAS or SQL), with the ability to communicate insights clearly to stakeholders
Additional Information This role will commence as a 12-month contract, with extension through to June 2028 and a clear intention to convert to a permanent position within that period. Applicants must hold Australian PR or Citizenship.
