About the opportunity

Bathurst Health Service is seeking a Staff Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology for a 3-year full-time contract, with the successful applicant also undertaking a Temporary Head of Department appointment.

This is a key leadership role providing high-quality, safe, evidence-based Obstetrics & Gynaecology services to the Bathurst community and the wider Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD). The position offers excellent clinical variety, supported training opportunities, and the chance to lead a dynamic multidisciplinary team.

Where you'll be working

You will be based at Bathurst Health Service, a major regional facility within the Western NSW Local Health District. The hospital supports a wide range of medical, surgical, maternity and emergency services, with ongoing investment in infrastructure and workforce development. Essential Requirements
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) or other specialist recognition under the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
* Demonstrated high-level clinical skills and contemporary evidence-based practice in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
* Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement.
* Demonstrated experience in teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in CPD.
* Ability to lead and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Willingness to participate in after-hours, shift and on-call rosters.
* Demonstrated recent senior clinical experience in O&G aligned with the role delineation of the service.
* Demonstrated leadership and management experience with the ability to support and develop clinical teams.
* Valid NSW Working with Children Clearance
* Cleared National Criminal Record Check
* Aged Care Check (for Commonwealth-funded positions).
* Compliance with NSW Health's Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Policy.
* Commitment to safe work practices and adhering to WHS responsibilities.
Selection Criteria

* Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of FRANZCOG or equivalent.
* Proven ability to provide high-quality obstetric and gynaecological care, lead teams and ensure patient safety in a regional health context.
* Demonstrated understanding of risk management, safety systems and NSQHS standards in maternity care.
* Demonstrated commitment to the training, supervision and mentoring of junior doctors and medical students.
* Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills across clinical disciplines.
* Demonstrated capacity to lead service planning, manage change and deliver on performance and accreditation requirements.
* Understanding and application of NSW Health CORE values, Code of Conduct and relevant NSW Health policies.
