About the Role
As part of these projects, successful candidates will contribute to advancing Defence Feeding Systems through innovation, testing, and quality assurance. This is an exciting opportunity to work on next‐generation food science technologies and processes alongside leading scientific and Defence teams.
Skills and Expertise
* Leading, planning, and contributing to new product development, process validation, and quality assurance for food systems.
* Conducting tests and evaluations of food and packaging, including:
o Sensory and physico‐chemical testing
o Robustness shelf‐life studies
o Challenge testing
* Operating food processing and packaging equipment, such as microwave‐assisted thermal sterilisers.
* Modelling and optimising food processing conditions.
* Participating in sensory evaluation panels and analysing results. Statistically interpreting sensory, chemical, microbiological, nutrient, and shelf‐life data.
* Investigating technological advances in food formulation, processing, and packaging, including thermal and non‐thermal sterilisation techniques, encapsulation, nanotechnology, and 3D printing Smart packaging solutions.
* Writing and reviewing technical reports, standards, risk assessments, and specifications related to Defence feeding solutions.
* Providing guidance on legislative, ethical, and organisational requirements.
* Supporting laboratory functions, including equipment maintenance, documentation, and safety systems.
* Assisting with field trials, surveys, focus groups, and ethics submissions.
Key Requirements
* Relevant qualifications in Food Science, Food Technology, or related disciplines.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills.
* Experience in laboratory, research, or product development settings.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to report findings to technical and non‐technical stakeholders.
