Purpose of the Position
The Senior Group Facilitator/Individual Psychotherapist plays a critical leadership and therapeutic role in the development, delivery, and oversight of medium and high-intensity therapeutic group programs and individual psychotherapy across CQID's Therapeutic and Clinical Services team. Operating across DFV, AOD, and mental health program areas, the position ensures that all group and individual interventions are evidence-informed, culturally safe, trauma-aware, and aligned with best practice standards.
The position is responsible for designing, co-facilitating, and training others in the delivery of Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI)-based group programs. It also continues to clinical supervision, intake and assessment, facilitator capacity building, and implementation of the organisation's clinical governance framework.
Responsibilities and Duties
* Deliver group programs across DFV, AOD, and mental health service streams, including medium- and high-intensity behaviour change programs.
* Lead the design, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement of group programs using CBT and MI approaches, embedded in cultural frameworks.
* Collaborate with cultural advisors, Elders, and community members to ensure group content is culturally grounded, safe, and strengths-based.
* Adapt and contextualise group programs to meet the needs of diverse client cohorts, including men’s behaviour change, AOD treatment and harm minimisation, relapse prevention, trauma recovery, grief and loss and SEWB.
* Provide training, supervision, and mentoring to internal group facilitators across the Therapeutic and Clinical Services team.
* Support staff to build facilitation capability in both therapeutic content and group process, with an emphasis on safety, responsiveness, and cultural humility.
* Co-facilitate sessions with developing facilitators and offer reflective practice debriefing.
* Provide individual therapeutic interventions to clients with high needs or complexity, as identified through intake and assessment processes.
* Use evidence-informed, culturally safe approaches to respond to trauma, addiction, emotional regulation, interpersonal harm, and mental distress.
* Maintain therapeutic case notes and contribute to multidisciplinary team care planning and integrated service coordination.
* Provide oversight and supervision of group work intake and assessment processes across relevant programs.
* Guide appropriate program allocation and support planning based on risk, readiness, and participant goals.
* Work with the Practice Development Manager and Clinical Supervisor to implement CQID’s clinical governance framework.
* Contribute to policy and procedure development for group work standards, facilitation protocols, and clinical documentation.
* Ensure that clinical safety is underpinned by cultural safety, with explicit attention to:
* Historical and contemporary racism.
* Impacts of colonisation and intergenerational trauma.
* Systemic power imbalances and structural disadvantage.
* Participate in program audits, peer review, and service evaluations, ensuring learning and improvement cycles are embedded.
* Mentor and develop the practice skills and knowledge of staff and provide ongoing professional development.
* Establish enduring productive partnerships with regulatory bodies, the community and other government and non-government sectors.

* Assist in the updating and review of policies and procedures as required.
* Support the team in event planning for meetings, professional development, and other initiatives.

The Senior Group Facilitator will receive:
* Regular external clinical supervision aligned with their qualifications and scope of practice.
* Ongoing internal cultural supervision, guided by CQID's Elders, Cultural Practice leads and/or approved mentors.
The role will also provide practice supervision to other staff delivering group work, ensuring integration of:
* Cultural knowledge systems
* Reflective and ethical facilitation practice
* Risk and safety management protocols

* Evaluate service delivery and provide regular written progress and issues reports and expert advice to the General Manager Therapeutic Services.
Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate capability in the following areas:
* Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage and connection to community and culture.
* Demonstrated awareness and understanding of complex challenges and key issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
* Relevant tertiary qualification and 5+ years successive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant skills, knowledge and experience in Human Services.
* Current accreditation as a Senior Men’s Behaviour Change Facilitator or ability to obtain this within a defined period.
* Advanced practice experience in group facilitation, trauma-informed care, and psychotherapeutic interventions.
* Experience working within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and a demonstrated commitment to cultural safety and decolonising practice.
* Demonstrated understanding of HSQS and ISO Quality Assurance systems and in-depth understanding of government, legislation and the reform agenda.
* Leadership and change management capability and capacity to motivate and inspire excellence in teams and individuals.
* Strong relationship building and influencing skills and ability to develop, maintain and enhance constructive and collaborative relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders.
* You exercise high quality professional judgement, ensuring decisions are based on sound evidence and take personal responsibility for delivering quality outcomes while maintaining professional behaviour in a challenging and complex environment;
