Job Description
The Claims recovery Manager will lead a team of Recovery and Support Specialists, providing technical expertise and guidance to the Claims team on return-to-work strategies, rehabilitation services, occupational and functional matters, and case management. Your focus will be on achieving optimal claim durations and outcomes in line with policy terms.
This includes strengthening Recovery and Support practices, managing relationships with external rehabilitation providers, and building capability across the Claims team. You will also resolve escalated provider performance issues while ensuring alignment with TAL's claims philosophy, procedures, and risk management framework.
A key aspect of your role is to enhance assessment quality across Income Protection, Life, Trauma, and TPD portfolios. You will support Claims Consultants in developing their capability within TAL's Recovery and Support frameworks, and contribute to creating health, recovery, and return-to-work propositions, tools, and resources to strengthen TAL's rehabilitation offering.
In This Role You Will
* Act as a subject matter expert, championing best-practice recovery and support services aligned with TAL's claims philosophy.
* Lead and manage the Recovery and Support team, ensuring consistency in return-to-work activities, ETE assessments, and utilisation of support services.
* Oversee external provider performance, manage relationships, and review metrics to ensure quality outcomes.
* Drive operational and people management, including work allocation, recruitment, coaching, and capability development in line with TAL's frameworks.
* Build technical capability across the Claims team through coaching, training, and development of tools and resources to uplift assessment quality.
* Ensure compliance with TAL policies, industry regulations, and customer service standards while promoting a strong risk culture.
Qualifications
* At least 2 years' demonstrated experience in a similar role within Life Insurance or 5 years' experience within an Occupational or Vocational Rehabilitation field or other allied health discipline
* Experience in coaching and embedding knowledge, including an uplift of skills of claims consultants.
* Experience in process improvement and projects.
* Excellent knowledge of the Life Insurance Code of Practice, Insurance Contracts Act, Privacy Principles and other relevant legislative or regulatory requirements and their application during claims assessment.
* Ability to identify and develop strategies to overcome biopsychosocial issues and barriers in claims assessment and management.
* Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service to a wide range of clients and stakeholders.
