Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling including CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction delivering the Tunnels South package on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East on behalf of Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA). SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is now under construction, with tunnelling to start in 2026 and trains to be running by 2035. Suburban Connect is constructing the 16 km of tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley using four tunnel boring machines and a range of excavation methods, including 55 cross passages, two tunnel portal structures, two station box excavations and associated supports.
Purpose Of The Role
The Rigging Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating all lifting operations across the Suburban Connect (Suburban Rail Loop) project to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant lift studies, regulatory requirements, and project standards. Working closely with Construction Delivery teams, engineers and subcontractors, this role provides on‐site leadership and technical oversight of complex lifting and rigging activities, supporting the timely and safe delivery of works on one of Melbourne's largest infrastructure projects.
The Key Responsibilities Of The Role Include
* Supervise lifting and rigging operations across the Suburban Connect project.
* Ensure all lifting activities are carried out in line with approved lift studies, relevant legislation and project standards.
* Coordinate with construction, engineering and subcontractor teams to ensure lifting activities support the timely completion of works.
* Provide clear leadership and direction to rigging and lifting crews on site.
* Conduct inspections of lifting equipment, rigging systems and work areas to ensure safety and compliance.
* Troubleshoot lifting and rigging issues as they arise and implement effective solutions.
* Ensure lifting operations are planned, communicated, and executed safely in high‐risk construction environments.
* Promote safe work practices and adherence to project safety requirements at all times.
We Are Looking For Someone With
* Minimum of 5 years' rigging experience, including at least 3 years on Tier 1 infrastructure projects.
* Minimum of 3 years' experience in a supervision or leadership role.
* RI or RA High Risk Work Licence (mandatory).
* Extensive knowledge of rigging systems, lifting operations and associated safety protocols.
* Strong leadership and team management skills.
* Excellent problem‐solving and organisational abilities.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with multiple project stakeholders.
* Proven experience working in complex, high‐risk construction environments.
