Specialist in Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care
WAVES is looking for a 4th ACVECC / ECVECC diplomate or FANZCVS (ECC) or board/fellow eligible candidate to join the Emergency and Critical Care Team of our large multispecialty hospital which includes specialists in anaesthesia, dermatology, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging and surgery.
The hospital is equipped with the usual bells and whistles including ultrasound, CT, 1.5T MRI, in-house laboratory, blood gas analyzer, ROTEM, mechanical ventilators, high flow oxygen, etc.
The Emergency and Critical Care Team has a great relationship with all of the other services within the hospital and patient care is optimized by the input of multiple specialists when required.
The Emergency and Critical Care service operates around the clock and includes a team of experienced, enthusiastic veterinarians who are motivated to learn and optimize patient care.
The vast majority of the emergency vet team are members of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists having been examined in emergency and critical care.

We are looking for a specialist who enjoys treating patients, has empathy for pet owners and referring veterinarians. The emergency specialist must be approachable, keen to teach and support the emergency and critical care service to continue to grow and improve. They must also be patient and supportive whilst mentoring residents, interns and more junior veterinarians through their journey.
This position requires a specialist who has excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collegially with others including non-specialist veterinarians, nurses and pet owners as we value harmony within our hospital. Continuing education is very important to us, so the successful applicant must have the desire to teach and mentor interns, residents, junior veterinarians and nurses as required.
The position will be a shared workload amongst the ECC specialists to provide cover for weekday day shifts and weekend day shifts. On-call for advice and specialist support for the emergency team is also shared amongst the specialists with an average of 1 in 3 to 4. After hours requirements are very rare because of the experience of the team.
Wages is commensurate with experience and starts from $150,000 for board eligible candidates and $180,000 for newly boarded specialists.
