About the role
In this pivotal role, you will be at the centre of Legal Aid NSW's work health and safety compliance and reporting function, ensuring our organisation not only meets its legislative obligations but gains real, actionable insight from WHS data. This is an opportunity to apply your analytical expertise to strengthen governance, enhance risk management, and support evidence‑based decision‑making across a diverse, state‑wide organisation.
You'll play a key part in shaping high‑quality WHS reporting frameworks, improving the accuracy and consistency of safety data, and advising senior leaders on emerging trends, regulatory requirements and organisational risks.
You will:
Lead WHS compliance and reporting activities, ensuring legislative alignment, robust governance, and clear, high‑quality analysis that informs organisational oversight.
Translate complex WHS, workers compensation and health data into meaningful insights that highlight trends, emerging risks and opportunities for prevention.
Support regulatory engagement, providing specialist advice on SafeWork NSW inspections, audits, investigations and compliance activities.
Conduct WHS audits and incident investigations, identifying gaps, root causes and practical, evidence‑informed recommendations for improvement.
Partner with managers and site leaders to ensure risks are identified, monitored and resolved through consistent reporting and proactive WHS practices.
- Build organisational capability, contributing to WHS frameworks, systems and training that strengthen compliance and uplift safety performance across all locations.
About you
You are a detail‑driven WHS professional with a passion for accuracy, compliance and high‑quality reporting. You bring strong analytical capability, sound judgement and the confidence to work with diverse stakeholders to lift WHS performance across a complex organisation. Your strength lies in turning data, legislation and audit findings into clear insights that drive meaningful action.
You will be a great fit if you:
Excel in WHS compliance, reporting and legislative interpretation, with the ability to analyse WHS and injury‑management data and translate it into clear, actionable insights for leaders.
Communicate complex WHS information with clarity, tailoring your advice to managers, staff, Health & Safety Representatives, unions and external regulators such as SafeWork NSW.
Have proven experience in audits, investigations and WHS documentation, including developing policies, procedures and training that support organisational compliance.
Build strong, collaborative relationships across HR, Audit & Risk, HSRs, managers and external agencies to support assurance, governance and continuous improvement.
- Work autonomously and exercise sound judgement, managing reporting priorities, responding to incidents, and escalating emerging risks appropriately.
