Responsibilities
- Lead the energy market function and manage the trading strategy for a distributed battery portfolio.
- Oversee trading operations for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM), including real-time optimisation, bidding and dispatch, and compliance with the NER and AEMO procedures.
- Develop and execute bidding strategies to maximise value in wholesale energy and ancillary services markets.
- Monitor market conditions, pricing trends, demand forecasts, and regulatory developments; align operational strategy with financial targets with the Commercial Team; oversee market data reconciliation, settlements, and invoicing.
- Act as primary escalation point for AEMO-related issues; engage with grid operators, network service providers and market participants; build robust operational procedures and drive continuous improvement.
What you bring to the role / Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy or related field.
- Minimum five years’ experience in energy trading, market operations, or technical support within the National Electricity Market (NEM).
- Experience with FRMP or IRP registered entity is highly desirable.
- Robust understanding of battery technologies and energy storage systems; practical knowledge of control systems.
- Ability to navigate complexities of battery tech in a commercially focused environment.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks including the National Electricity Rules (NER), AEMO procedures and market reporting.
- Hands-on experience with AEMO Portal Applications and related systems.
- Proficiency with performance monitoring tools and data analysis platforms for market compliance.
