Job Description
The Financial Controller is a pivotal leadership role within the Administrative Support Team, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This position oversees the full spectrum of financial operations, including statutory and management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and payroll.
The role involves direct supervision of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions and plays a central role in improving financial systems, processes, and reporting capabilities. The Financial Controller ensures that high-quality financial information supports strategic decision-making and contributes to the overall success of the business.
This is a hands-on role suited to a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a dynamic, project-based environment. The Financial Controller will require a strong vision for how the finance function supports business areas through partnering and information sharing.
The role operates in a changing project-based business environment where maintaining motivation, momentum, and quality is essential. This is a new role within the organisation with the opportunity to grow and shape the role of the financial controller.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage all financial reporting (statutory and management) and ensure the integrity and timeliness of financial information to Executive Management.
* Supervise the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, including mentoring and performance management.
* Finalise payroll and submit payroll summaries and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
* Prepare divisional and consolidated budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
* Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including general ledger reviews, reconciliations, and WIP analysis.
* Oversee preparation of tax obligations, including Income Tax, GST, FBT, Payroll Tax, and Superannuation Guarantee compliance.
* Liaise with external accountants for the preparation of annual financial statements and tax returns.
* Support project teams with profitability analysis and financial performance insights.
* Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, controls, and policies.
* Maintain compliance with all financial, accounting, and statutory obligations.
Skills and Qualifications
* CA/CPA qualification and active membership of CAANZ or CPA Australia.
* Extensive experience in financial leadership roles within commercial environments.
* Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards, tax legislation, and compliance requirements.
* Proven capability in managing payroll and overseeing transactional finance functions.
* Proficiency in financial systems, ERP software, and advanced Excel skills.
* High-level analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
