About the role

The Discipline Lead – Speech Pathology provides strategic and academic leadership within the National School of Health Sciences, guiding the development and delivery of the Speech Pathology program across campuses. This role is pivotal in shaping the discipline’s teaching, research, and community engagement, ensuring alignment with professional standards and accreditation requirements.

In addition to overseeing curriculum quality and student experience, the Discipline Lead fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration, and scholarly excellence. As a senior member of the school, the role contributes to strategic planning and governance, supporting the University's mission as a Catholic institution committed to ethical practice, social justice, and the public good.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development, coordination, and delivery of high-quality, evidence-based curriculum and courses in Speech Pathology Therapy, including lectures, tutorials, clinical sessions, and workshops.
- Supervise honours and postgraduate students, including major research projects, and contribute to the advancement of research within the discipline.
- Conduct and lead discipline-specific research, fostering scholarly activity and collaboration across academic and clinical teams.
- Provide strategic academic leadership, contributing to program planning, accreditation processes, and governance within the School and University.
- Engage in student support activities including consultation, assessment, and fostering a positive learning environment that promotes student success and retention.
- Represent the discipline through active participation in professional networks, industry partnerships, and community engagement initiatives.

Qualifications, skills & experience

- Doctoral qualification (PhD or equivalent) in Speech Pathology, or a closely related field, along with Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA).
- Extensive knowledge of Speech Pathology theory and practice, including current trends, accreditation standards, and the Australian health sector landscape.
- Proven academic leadership experience, including mentoring staff, managing performance, coordinating programs, and contributing to strategic planning and governance.
- Advanced curriculum development skills, with a strong record of designing and delivering inclusive, evidence-based teaching across various modes (in-person, online, blended).
- Established or emerging research profile, demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, project leadership, research funding, and supervision of honours or postgraduate students.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams, build collaborative relationships, and represent the discipline internally and externally.
