Tell me about this role:
In this role, you will deliver a Future Lead-In Fighter System (FLIFS) inclusive of aircraft, simulators, facilities, ground support equipment, and training materials. The FLIFS system will replace the existing Introductory Fighter Course (IFC) and Introductory Fighter Course - Air Combat Officer (IFC-A) systems at 79 Squadron and 76 Squadron and will train fast jet (combat) aircrew to the point where they commence conversion training to front line combat aircraft.
You will work in a team under the general direction of the Engineering Manager to generate a Functional Performance Specification (FPS) for the Air-frame, Engine and Ejection Seat elements of the FLIFS.
This position is full time and required to be onsite at Russell Offices, Canberra.
What will I be doing day to day?
* Develop high quality, reliable systems engineering FPS in accordance with the appropriate technical standards
* Work collaboratively with the Engineering Manager and engineering team to identify and minimise or eliminate capability risks
* Ensure a high level of integration and consistency with other specifications relating to the system
* Evaluate tender responses to the FPS as part of a tender evaluation team and develop comprehensive Airframe, Engine and Ejection Seat elements of a tender evaluation report, for multiple tenders
* Participate in a design review of tenderer's product development
* Present clear and concise Airframe, Engine and Ejection Seat FPS developments to an Integrated Project Team
* Provide a detailed FPS with a fully populated and linked systems engineering database with entries relating of the Airframe, Engine and Ejection Seat elements of the FLIFS
* Produce high quality written reports and briefing content as defined by the Engineering Manager and relating to the Airframe, Engine and Ejection Seat elements
* Initial high level FPS for the Airframe, Engine and Ejection Seat elements of the FLIFS in a systems engineering database
Who we're Looking For:
An experienced Aeronautical Engineer with extensive experience in the Air Domain. You will possess the skills to confidently liaise with the team of engineers comprising of a Standards Engineer, Risk Engineer, Test Engineer and a Logistician. You will have prior CASG and aircraft acquisition experience. You are comfortable interpreting policy, managing risk, and providing clear advice whilst delivering planned products on-time and to a high quality within the Aerospace Domain.
You have a sound understanding of the tender evaluation process and the ability to travel as required for meetings and reviews. You will be familiar with the Operational Concept Document (OCD) and Strategic Guidance documents. You will possess strong written, presentation and communication skills and are confident engaging with senior stakeholders.
What sort of skills do I need?
* Aeronautical Engineering Degree or equivalent (Essential)
* Demonstrated experience working with aircraft air-frame and engine specifications
* Strong writing skills, with experience preparing briefs, reports, correspondence, and governance documentation for senior stakeholders
* Defence Acquisition experience is essential
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
* Ability to travel as required for meeting and vendor reviews
* Australian citizenship, NV1 clearance minimum, ITAR compliance
