About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing and overseeing urgent diagnostic testing across various disciplines to support critical patient care. Key responsibilities include:
1. Technical and Analytical Duties
* Perform routine and complex diagnostic tests on STAT specimens using automated and manual methodologies.
* Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analysers.
* Analyse and validate test results, ensuring accuracy and clinical relevance.
* Participate in method validation, verification, and instrument calibration.
2. Workflow and Turnaround Management
* Prioritise and manage STAT and urgent test workflows to meet strict turnaround time targets.
* Ensure prompt release and communication of critical and abnormal test results to clinicians.
* Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify urgent test requests and requirements.
3. Quality Assurance and Compliance
* Perform and interpret daily quality control checks and take corrective actions when needed.
* Maintain accurate records of quality control, maintenance logs, and test procedures.
* Comply with national and local accreditation standards, laboratory policies, and health and safety regulations.
4. Data and Information Management
* Accurately input, verify, and retrieve patient and test data using the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
* Document and report any incidents, equipment malfunctions, or non-conformances in accordance with lab procedures.
5. Communication and Collaboration
* Liaise with pathologists, medical officers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding urgent results.
* Work collaboratively with laboratory scientists and technicians to maintain efficient operations.
6. Training and Professional Development
* Participate in the training and supervision of junior staff and students.
* Engage in continuous professional development and stay updated with relevant scientific and clinical advances.
