Design Consultant
Zone Landscape Architecture (ZLA) is a dynamic and innovative design studio based on the Gold Coast. We work across a diverse mix of projects including education, residential, and public realm, with a strong focus on thoughtful, high-quality outcomes. Collaboration, creativity, and a genuine passion for shaping places underpin everything we do.
As our studio continues to grow, we’re looking to connect with talented, design-driven individuals who want to contribute to meaningful projects and be part of a supportive, ambitious team.
The Opportunity
Rather than hiring for a fixed role, we’re opening the door to people with strong design thinking, technical capability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Whether your experience sits within landscape architecture or a closely related design field, we’re interested in hearing from individuals who can add value to our studio.
You’ll have the opportunity to work across a range of exciting projects from community and public spaces to education and residential developments, contributing at various stages from early concept through to delivery. Our work often involves navigating site constraints, stakeholder needs, and environmental considerations, so an ability to think critically and develop clear, practical solutions is key.
Depending on your experience and strengths, you may:
* Contribute to or lead projects from concept through to completion
* Collaborate with clients, consultants, and internal team members to shape design outcomes
* Develop design documentation and visual material
* Help resolve design and technical challenges as projects evolve
* Support or mentor junior team members
* Play a role in project coordination and delivery
About You
We’re less focused on rigid titles and more interested in capability, mindset, and design approach. You might bring:
* A background in landscape architecture, urban design, architecture, project management, graphic design or a related field
* A strong portfolio demonstrating creative and thoughtful design work
* Experience contributing to or delivering built projects (level of experience flexible)
* Confidence in problem-solving, with the ability to balance design intent and practical constraints
* Proficiency in relevant design and documentation tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, 3D software)
* Strong communication and collaboration skills
* A proactive, curious attitude and willingness to contribute to a growing studio
* An interest in sustainable and context-responsive design
* Local experience in Southeast Queensland is beneficial but not essential.
* The ability to keep a sense of humour when a “quick change” turns into a full redesign
What We Offer
* Exposure to a diverse range of projects across Queensland and NSW
* A collaborative, design-focused studio culture
* Flexibility to shape your role based on your strengths and interests
* Opportunities to grow into more responsibility (if that’s your thing)
* A relaxed yet driven workplace in Burleigh Heads
