We’re looking for an enthusiastic and committed Communications Officer to help amplify our mission to improve access to and success in higher education for students from marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds.
About the Role:
We are seeking a proactive and creative Communications Officer to support the work of the Communications Team at ACSES. Working closely with the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager and the Research Communications and Events Coordinator, you will play a key role in promoting the Centre’s research, initiatives, and events across a range of digital and traditional platforms. From writing compelling content and coordinating campaigns to supporting events and media engagement, you will help amplify the Centre’s voice and connect with stakeholders across the higher education and policy sectors. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong communication skills, digital fluency, and a genuine interest in equity and education.
Your responsibilities will include:
Content creation and publication
o Research, write, edit, and source content for a range of channels including the Centre’s website, newsletters, media releases, and social media platforms.
o Create visually engaging communication materials using digital tools, ensuring consistency with ACSES brand and style guidelines.
o Translate complex research findings into accessible, audience-appropriate formats such as fact sheets, articles, and videos.
Digital and social media coordination
o Plan, develop, and monitor social media campaigns to promote the Centre’s work and engage key audiences.
o Maintain and update the Centre’s digital channels including the website, newsletter, and shared inbox.
o Track digital engagement and support reporting on communications performance.
Events
o Assist in planning, promoting, and delivering high-level events, workshops and functions, including logistics such as speaker coordination, registrations, and venue setup.
o Contribute to the development of promotional materials and displays for events.
Stakeholder engagement
o Assist in the maintenance of stakeholder and media contact databases.
o Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to support ACSES’s visibility and partnerships.
General support
o Conduct interviews, liaise with media, gather quotes and testimonials as needed for communications products.
o Undertake other communications-related duties as directed by the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager.

Selection Criteria
Qualifications
o A relevant tertiary degree with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
o Proven experience in copywriting and editing for a range of audiences and formats.
o Experience in producing multimedia content tailored to specific platforms and target audiences.
o Demonstrated ability to plan, create, schedule and monitor social media campaigns.
o Experience in coordinating events, including logistics, communications and stakeholder engagement.
o Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with diverse stakeholders in a complex environment.
o Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
Desirable Criteria
o Experience working with, or a strong interest in, equity groups and initiatives.
o Demonstrated skills in media and public relations, including proactive and reactive engagement.
o Knowledge of the university and/or tertiary education sector in Australia.
o Familiarity with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere Pro).
Role Requirements:
o Criminal record check in accordance with the University’s National Police Certificate Assessment procedures.
o Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.
o Possess a current WA driver’s licence.
