The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. It provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
The Department offers experience in trauma, hand and wrist surgery, skin cancer, burns, and general paediatric and adult reconstructive surgery. There is a strong teaching program with active involvement from consultants, and research and publications are encouraged.
The Department comprises six Plastic Surgeons with super speciality interests, four Registrars (including one PRS SET Trainee from VIC/TAS training program and three Unaccredited), one Surgical Basic Trainee, and one Intern.
We seek highly motivated applicants interested in pursuing a career in Plastic Surgery.
Three Unaccredited Registrars will be appointed in 2026.
Salary ranges from $134,930 to $189,005 per annum.
Classification: Medical Practitioner Level 5-11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar)
Salary is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022 .
Award: Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
Period of Employment: Fixed-term full-time, working 76 hours (+10 hours protected training time) per fortnight, from 02 February 2026 to 01 February 2027. Up to 24-month contracts are negotiable.
Note: This selection process may be used to fill similar vacancies for up to 12 months after the initial posting.
Location: Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Royal Hobart Hospital.
Duties
Manage private and public inpatients and outpatients at the designated site, including after-hours emergency duties as determined by the work unit.
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Current Working with Children Registration (if applicable).
The Head of the State Service requires the selected candidate to pass pre-employment checks, including conviction, identification, and disciplinary history checks.
