Commercial Finance Manager

Royal Formwork Solutions is a market-leading provider within the Australian construction and formwork industry in Sales & Hire, with office/warehouses in Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Commercial Finance Manager to join our Sydney Head Office, working closely with the Managing Director and General Manager.
This is a senior, hands-on role suited to a commercially driven finance professional with experience in the construction/building industry, strong exposure to sales environments, and the flexibility to support operations and ad-hoc business requirements as needed.
The Role
As Commercial Finance Manager, you will oversee the full finance function across multiple entities within the group while partnering closely with Operations, Sales and Senior Management. You will play a key role in commercial decision-making, operational support, compliance, and continuous improvement across the business.
This role requires a proactive, adaptable leader who is comfortable stepping beyond traditional finance responsibilities to support operational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
* Prepare and finalise monthly and year-end financial accounts for individual entities and the consolidated group.
* Deliver monthly financial reports and cash flow statements by the 21st of each month, supported by clear commercial and operational commentary.
* Prepare ad-hoc financial and operational reports for senior management.
* Utilise MYOB Advanced and MYOB AccountRight (or similar ERP/accounting systems).
* Lead and direct finance staff across accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, insurance and administration.
Accounts Receivable, Credit & Cash Flow
* Oversee debtor management and cash collection across all group entities.
* Ensure accurate and authorised invoicing in line with contracts, quotes, purchase orders and price lists.
* Work closely with Sales and Finance to ensure all billable items are captured.
* Manage customer credit applications, credit limits and debtor insurance.
* Liaise with credit insurance, credit agencies, insurers, solicitors and debt recovery providers.
* Assist customers with asset finance solutions where required.
Accounts Payable, Inventory & Operational Support
* Ensure supplier invoices are accurate, compliant and correctly authorised.
* Participate in contract reviews, negotiations, feasibility studies and cost analysis.
* Manage inventory controls, monthly stocktakes and reporting.
* Support operations with procurement, importation documentation and cost tracking.
Assets, Banking & Funding
* Oversee asset purchases including vehicles, plant, machinery and IT assets.
* Manage asset registers, maintenance and financing arrangements.
* Review banking facilities, ensuring fees and interest align with agreed terms.
* Liaise with banking relationship managers and prepare financials for annual reviews and funding requirements.
Sales, Operations & Commercial Support
* Support sales and marketing initiatives through costing, analysis and performance review.
* Partner with Operations to improve margins, pricing, utilisation and profitability.
* Provide commercial insight to support project performance and operational efficiency.
* Deliver ad-hoc support for business needs and strategic initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
* Identify and implement financially and operationally beneficial improvements.
* Drive accountability, efficiency and performance across finance and administration teams.
* Support broader business improvement initiatives beyond finance.
GST & Statutory Compliance – Done by others, but oversee the process
Payroll, Workforce & Industrial Relations
* Oversee payroll processes, wage costing and compliance with EBAs, awards and contracts.
* Ensure compliance with Superannuation, Payroll Tax and Long Service Leave obligations.
* Manage industrial relations matters as required.
* Lead, mentor and manage the Finance & Administration team, including performance reviews.
Workers Compensation, Insurance & Risk
* Manage workers compensation claims from initial injury through to finalisation.
* Liaise with icare, and rehabilitation providers as required.
* Establish, review and manage insurance policies and claims.
* Handle legal matters relating to workcover, civil claims and risk management.
About You
* CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent experience) preferred but not necessary.
* Strong experience in the construction or building industry (highly regarded).
* Proven experience in a senior commercial finance or leadership role.
* Strong operational awareness with the ability to support non-finance teams.
* Commercial mindset with exposure to sales, contracts and project-based environments.
* Confident, adaptable leader comfortable handling ad-hoc and cross-functional tasks.
* Strong systems experience (MYOB Advanced preferred).
* Hands-on, proactive and solution-focused.
